Chao Fah Pier night market is definitely the place for food lovers. Located nearby the pier, the market is home to an immense variety of food. During the day, this part of town is a parking lot for private vehicles and tour buses that bring tourists back and forth from popular islands. Once night falls, the parking lot is transformed into a 200 meter stretch of road with nothing but food, drinks, and sweets!

Food stalls are abundant and teeming with Thai tourists, the locals, and foreigners all queuing to order their favorite dish or a new dish they’ve never tried. Don’t be surprised if prices are a little bit higher than usual for road-side food. This is partly due to the large number of people that this place attracts. You can order food from specialized shops, or order from the many made-to-order stalls. Each stall has its own way of preparation and unique taste so it would be best to order many dishes and share among friends. You will find noodle stalls, fried rice, steamed food, seafood, ‘phad thai’, ‘tom yum’, and many others. Prices range from 35 to 50 Baht per dish.

One of the many stalls that you shouldn’t miss out is ‘Jae Mai’s Ice Cream’. From observing the area, it seems to be the only ice cream stall around. Jae Mai is an old lady who sells homemade coconut and chocolate ice cream. You can have your ice cream with condiments and a bread bun (Thai style), or in a cup for 20 baht. 

Another recommended dessert is ‘Tao-huay’; tofu in soybean milk with shaved ice. The stall is in fact a motorcycle, and has no name or sign. You’ll have to look for the vehicle, but don’t worry, it’s not that hard to find.

You also don’t have to worry about seats because tables are plentiful. Tourists come and go at all times during the night so you will definitely have a place to sit. All you have to do is get there, pick a seat, and order your food, then enjoy the rest. A little word of caution for all travellers, due to the fact that you can order from multiple stalls you will have to keep track of which dish(es) you have already paid for to avoid overpaying.
