Suan Mokkh Krungthep is the local name for BIA (Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives) located insideWachira Benchathat Park (Suan Rod Fai) nearby the lake. BIA is a modern-looking 2-story building dedicated to Buddhism. Outside, on the ground floor, you’ll find a courtyard with carved-stones depicting the life of the lord Buddha beginning with his birth, enlightenment, and nirvana. Also on the ground floor is the Dharma Books & Media store where you’ll find many books about Buddhism, including books written by famous monks. If you want to practice meditation or attempt to feel nirvana, make your way up to the first floor to the nirvana exhibit. There is plenty of space for putting your mind and body at ease. On the third floor is the collection of artworks belonging to Buddhadasa.
Aside from the Buddhist art gallery, visitors can also engage in other peaceful activities provided at the centre. Such activities include yoga, Tai Chi, giving alms, and many more. These activities are meant to promote spiritual and physical health and well-being. For each of the activities, there will be staff to help give you information and feedback. If you would like to know more about the symbolism and meaning of various sculptures and artworks, come to the centre during the weekend or public holidays. There will be a guided tour to explain everything to you.
Although this destination is oriented towards Thais and Buddhists, BIA is an interesting place to spend a few hours to learn about and admire Buddhism and Buddhist art. The meditation and nirvana exhibit is a wonderful way to learn to meditate and take your mind off your problems.
