Hot Waterfall, Unseen Thailand destination @Krabi

The province of Krabi is listed as one of many ‘Unseen’ destinations in Thailand. Thais and foreigners come from far and wide to marvel at the beauty of the white sand beaches and clear ocean waters. However, a lesser-known ‘Unseen’ attraction in Krabi is the ‘Hot Waterfall’.

Depending of how fast you drive, the ‘Hot Waterfall’ is an hour or so drive from Krabi town. To get to this natural attraction, follow Petchkasem Rd. from Krabi Town (Krabi-Trang direction) for about 45 kilometers. Once at Khlong Thom district, turn left onto Route 4038 and follow the road. Turn right on Sukapiban 2 Rd. and drive another 12 kilometers. Along the way, you will see signage pointing the direction to the ‘Hot Waterfall’ aka ‘Hot Springs’. Entrance fees cost 20 Baht for Thais and 90 Baht for foreigners.

From the entrance, you will have to take a nature walk along the easy-to-follow path that leads to the waterfall. The ‘Hot Waterfall’ is an area inside a park surrounded by trees to provide ample shade for visitors who want to relax after their walk through the park. The waterfall itself is a small one, measuring only 5 meters in height and 10 meters wide. Visitors can take a dip in the water to freshen up or cool off after a hot day. Although the waterfall is not big, visitors should be careful because the area is quite slippery.

If you have had enough of the waterfall, head to the nearby hot spring. This natural phenomenon is caused by the heat rising from a crack in the earth’s crust thus warming the water to 42 degrees Celsius. Many visitors enjoy bathing in the hot water to relax their muscles. A word of caution, bathing in the hot spring for more than 20 minutes is ill advised as it may cause severe dehydration.

After your relaxing moments at the waterfall or hot spring, you can take a shower at the bathroom facility provided. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes and towel. To best enjoy your time here, try to avoid the high season and long weekends as it brings in a lot of visitors.
