Koh Hong, Emerald of the sea of Thailand

Koh Hong or Room Island (“Koh” = island and “Hong” = room in Thai) is the biggest island of Hong archipelago and part of Than Bok Khorani National Park at Krabi Province, Thailand. It has been named as “Emerald of the sea at Krabi” from its white sandy beach, crystal clear water with glimpse of green sparkling, and its very beautiful scenery. Visitors can come to Koh Hong from Ao Tha Lane and Ao Nang through several boat services. Prices are varying depending on type of the boat you choose.

In case that you want to skip the hassle of going there by yourself, visitors can purchase tour package from many tour operators at Ao Nang in Krabi province. Prices and details of packages may differ depending on number of places that you want to visit or tour duration. We recommend you to talk to tour operators thoroughly to avoid any misunderstanding. Don’t worry their English are just fine.

Ridding on the boat from the pier passing through the emerald sea, the first thing that came into our view in front of us is the Room Island. We were completely stunned by its white sandy beach and rocky mountain with trees in the background. Koh Hong is surrounded by the emerald color sea with small friendly tropical fish swimming around. The best month to visit Koh Hong is in March since there will be many type of fish there.

Another attractive spot on the Koh Hong is "Talay Nai" which can be translated as “The Sea inside.” The name is derived from the fact that its big natural pool is surrounded by high rocky mountains which look like a room or lagoon. Talay Nai can only be entered through its 10 meters wide passage to the sea. Its shallow emerald pool and fine white sandy beach are very suitable for swimming.

If you plan to visit the Lagoon or “Talay Nai” in Koh Hong by boat, we recommend that you talk with your seaman or your tour operator because we can get in there only when the tide is high.

Getting to   Taly Nai   by kayak seems to be a very nice idea if kayaking is your thing. The route from Koh Hong beach to Talay Nai is not too long; only 2 kilometers. Besides, you can rest at the pit stop if you feel a bit lazy before making your way to the lagoon.

You can choose to purchase either full day or half day kayaking tour at Koh Hong. We urge you to study details and compare options from operators to operators before making your decision.

Other than diving, snorkeling, and kayaking; visitors can also enjoy varieties of activities such as hiking along the nature trail on this very same island. Furthermore, you can also make a visit to other islands in Hong archipelago such as “Koh Lao Lading” (also known as “Paradise Island”). Clear water and quiet environment of Koh Lao Lading make the island another favorite spot for foreigners to come sunbathing and snorkeling. Besides, you could get a glimpse of how we harvest bird-nest here in Thailand as well.

    • Strong point:
    • Koh Hong is surrounded by crystal clear water with glimpse of green sparkling, friendly small tropical fish, fine white sandy beach, and extremely beautiful scenery. Very much suitable for swimming, sun bathing, snorkeling, kayaking, and more.
    • Weak point:
    • Boat fares are consider to be expensive. Besides, there is only one food stall on the island; make sure that you have prepared water and some snack with you.
    • Conclusion:
