Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, A future hub for fine arts.

If you walk at the intersection of Rama 1 and Phaya Thai roads, you will notice several popular landmarks. MBK Shopping mall is on one corner, Siam Discovery Center is on another, and just across MBK on a third corner you will find the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Take a ride on the BTS Skytrain to National Stadium station and take a trip with us inside the BACC. Forget about shopping for a day and open your mind to contemporary thai art and thai culture, and maybe learn a thing or two.

The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, initiated by the government, was not an easy project to complete. The purpose of this modern tower is to allow students and citizens to learn about art and history, to engage visitors in exchanging thoughts and ideas, and to mark the beginning of a bigger project to turn Bangkok into a world-class fine arts hub.

Inside the BACC, you will witness many styles of art. Some of the collections on display are permanent pieces of the centre while others rotate or are temporary. Once inside, walk to the center, and look up. It becomes obvious that a tremendous amount of work and thought was put into this building. The architecture of the building is designed to allow just enough light to illuminate the interior without damaging the collections. Bangkok is serious about art available for the masses.

The interior is divided into 10 floors. However, only floors 1 to 9 is open to the public. Here is the breakdown of the floors.

    Editor's Comment

    • Strong point:
    • It is the largest art gallery in Bangkok easily accessible by the BTS Skytrain, making it the perfect place for art-lovers and curious passersby to walk in and take a look at the collections.
    • Weak point:
    • For a fancy building, the toilets need improvement in the area of cleanliness.
    • Conclusion:
    • If Bangkok wants to be a world-class fine arts hub, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is a good beginning. Take a walk inside and enjoy the works or learn a thing or two.
