Many people dream about writing and publishing a book but because of fierce competition in Thai book industry, this is becoming more challenging than ever; especially for those Indies who write outside of mainstream.  However, there is a writer, together with a group of his friend, stood up against the challenge and provide “space” for those indies to reveal their creativity at Room 2521

Located at the center of Talang Road in Phuket, Room 2521  is one of dedications to Thai art and literature of Dr.Marut Lekpetch and his friends from various industry.

Many that came to this place for the first time might wonder what exactly this place is.  Starting from the entrance, there is an old classic bench for visitors to rest.  Once you walk inside the building, you will see shelves that are full of hand-made books and indie Thai literature placed besides rustic bare concrete wall.  At the other side of the wall, there is a temporary art exhibition that displays interesting paints, photographs, and mixed media of Thai and foreign artists.  On the second floor, you can find many out-of-the-mainstream films from various origins and nations.  Register for a membership at the art house and you can borrow these DVDs for free.  Room 2521is not an ordinary bookstore, but it is also a center for people who love indie art and literature in Phuket to discuss about the things they love.

Room 2521 does not only offer interesting things for our eyes.  It also has a small coffee shop inside as well.  We ordered a cup of hot caramel macchiato, homemade Cake Choc, andhoney toast with vanilla ice-cream to full fill our little afternoon appetite and refresh ourselves from walk in Phuket Old Town.

If you coming to Phuket and plan to take a stroll in Phuket Old Town, Room 2521 is a nice place to take a stop and rest for a bit; grab a book, sip a cup of hot coffee and go on with your next destinations.

Take Thep Kasattri 402 Road to Phuket Town, and then turn right at Thalang Road. Continue straight ahead for about 50 metre, Room 2521 will be on your right.
