Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden
While thewinter winds begin to blow in the northern part of Thailand, particularly Chiang Mai, some of you may enjoy the cool breeze, and some may miss the hot heat. Now let’s take some time and visitthe Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden located at Mae Rim.
Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden was established in 1993, and is located within the perimeters of Doi Suthep – Pui National Park. The garden covers 6,500 acres. Within this area is a school and various gardens. The gardens are used for conservation, collection, and studying of plants. Accommodation is also available for visitors who want to relax and take it slow while visiting the gardens. For those of you who would like to come and visit, you have the choice between driving your own car and using the services offered. The area where the transportation service will stop and spend the most time at is the Greenhouse Complex.
The Greenhouse Complex consists of several exhibition conservatories and greenhouses for plant collection. To give you a preview of what to expect, here are the names of a few plants that you’ll get to see inside the largest greenhouse in the garden, the Tropical Rainforest House. You will find a variety of tropical plant and tree species from Thailand and Southeast Asia such as palm trees, the Golden Leaved Liana that reflect the sun’s rays to make the leaves yellow, the Gold Leaf Bauhinia, and plants belonging to the ginger family.
