Tung Prong Thong Golden Mangrove Field

The mangrove forest of Sampuu Community Moo 7 in Prasae is more than just a forest filled with biodiversity, but also the source of food and income for the villagers who look for crabs and seashells to sell.

A wooden walkway has been laid throughout the forest for visitors to walk on while touring the vicinity. Please tread carefully, do not run, and do not push others. The wood panels are old and worn, and slippery when wet.

Upon entering the forest, you will undoubtedly notice the array of mangroves and their roots trying to reach the floor below. What you can’t see are the wildlife that live deep within this forest. Crabs, lobsters, birds, mudfish, and more dwell in this pristine forest. The forest is also home to numerous species of mangroves.

The highlight of this forest, however, is Tung Prong Thong which means golden field in Thai. From this point, you’ll be able to enjoy a spectacular 360 degree view of a particular species of mangrove that produces yellow and green leaves. The sea of yellow that covers the entire area is like an impressionist painting. As the sun shines down onto the leaves, they gleam a brilliant yellow color that will surely leave you smiling.

Continue past the yellow mangrove field for about a kilometer, and you will come to the end of the walkway which leads to a waterside pavilion. Take a rest here and enjoy the fresh air provided by the forest. As beautiful as the forest is, it is disappointing to see garbage strewn across the shore in some areas.

We hope that you won’t be so selfish as to throw your garbage in this area. Although some parts of the forest is still under construction/renovation, this untouched forest is inviting and a beauty to look at, especially the golden field of mangroves.

    • Strong point:
    • The scenery is beautiful. The wooden walkway is a practical way to walk and visit around and inside the forest.
    • Weak point:
    • The wooden walkway is old and worn out, not to mention slippery when wet. Please take caution when walking. Garbage is apparent along the shore.
    • Conclusion:
    • Disregard the garbage you see in the area, and this untouched forest still remains inviting and a beauty to look at, especially the golden field of mangroves.

    How to get there

Coming from Rayong on Sukhumvit road, turn right at Prasae intersection after the 278th road marker. Keep left and then turn into Tetsaban 5 road. Continue until the end.
